The Concert Band is open to all students who would like to participate in the concert band. All members of the Marching Blue and Gold will become members of the Concert Band. Because Headland is a small county school system, it is required that all students wishing to march in the Blue and Gold must also be a member of the Concert Band.

The Concert Band will continue to work towards good tone production, breath support, good technique and good music fundamentals. Performances of the Concert Band will include a Christmas Concert, Mid-Point Assessment in Troy, a Spring Concert and any other performance deemed beneficial by the band director. All practices and performances are mandatory.
The Marching Band is open to all students proficient on any band instrument. The goal of the the Marching Band is to create enthusiasm and school spirit at all football games, parades, and community events. The Marching Band will concentrate on marching maneuvers and music, which will be performed at halftime, and marching festivals. Tone

Tone production, breath support, good technique and good music fundamentals will be expected by all. The Marching Band member must have ample free time during the fall for practices and performances. Attendance is mandatory for all practices and performances which include football games, parades, community events and Marching Festivals determined by the band director.
The Rhythm and Ram’s Jazz band is selected by the band director through audition and/or appointment. It is a group of 12 to 15 students that give up their time before or after school to rehearse Jazz music. Instrumentation for this group will include Saxes, Trumpets, Trombones, Guitars, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, and Drums. Times to meet will

The Drum Major will be the highest-ranking Band Member. The Drum Major will be responsible for warming up the band prior to practices, assist in enforcing rules, and any other function the Director chooses. All students answer to the Drum Major above any other officer other than the Director. In any case where the Director is absent, the Drum Major is expected to carry on in his or her capacity.
The Section Leaders are chosen by the Director and are responsible for reporting problems to the Drum Major, President, and then Director. Section Leaders also assist the Director in assuring all the students are learning the music and other aspects of the band program. Auxiliary Captains and Co-Captains are included as section leaders, and are considered a part of the band council.
Band officers are elected during band camp to lead in the band. All officers are expected to help with the maintaining of discipline and keeping the band room in order. Officer positions include President, Vice President/Equipment Manager, Secretary/Treasurer, Librarian(s), and Uniform Manager(s).

The Section Leader may not be the best player, but has leadership skills, making them the best leader of the section.
Students competing for Captain will perform and be judged one week after the try-outs by the Band Director and Instructors. Captain positions will be determined based on the following requirements:
Any person who is trying out for Captain must have all forms turned into Mr. Taylor two weeks prior to try-outs.
